Mystcraft 0.10.10.00

Post by: on October 27th, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

And more bugs!

The new system has a couple issues, not the least of which is the possibility of affecting other dimensions. Undesirable, but the Forge PR I pushed will fix this, once it goes through. The biggest issue is that the biome was registered to the array before it was fully constructed, meaning the reference was “leaked” and used before the object was fully valid. Bad stuff.
I fixed what I could for this, but the possibility of some quirkiness is still there.
I also fixed the server side crash caused by my changing some of my weather code. I moved from an internal system to using a bit of vanilla code, and I failed to note that the function I used was client side only (because half the weather model on Minecraft is client side only?).
I also handled an issue with asynchronous access to the world referencing ages still being constructed. This has been a long standing issue, and I think I finally zapped it.

Again, if you find any issues be sure to bring it up on the Mystcraft Forums.

To recap: there is only one download (found at the bottom of this post); This file is the universal install for client and server; it no longer goes in the jar.
Mystcraft goes in the mods folder.

Note that there are a couple changes between the video and the current mod, particularly that colors and things are easier to write. If you follow the tutorial, you’ll do great.

Mystcraft 0.10.9.00

Post by: on October 27th, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

Whoops. Looks like I made a mistake in my 1.6.4 update.

A critical bug was found in 0.10.8 where I incorrectly updated some MCP function names. This caused block modifier symbols to have the wrong identifiers. Symbols found on the update are wrong, and old worlds will have issues. This update addresses the latter, invalidating any block modifier symbols found since the update (which I expect to be relatively few…).
Since I was in the middle of a (pretty cool) new system, that’s included in this build… It should work, but if you notice anything odd with weather or biomes in ages, be sure to bring it up on the Mystcraft Forums.

Mystcraft 0.10.8.00 for 1.6.4 + API

Post by: on October 24th, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

Finally, the API we’ve all be waiting for!
Well, I’ve not been waiting for it, since I made it, and you may not have been waiting for it if you don’t plan on making an add-on… but I’m sure many people have been waiting for it simply to see what other people are going to make! :P
The API is still in alpha; only minor changes with this release. Be sure to give me feedback on the Mystcraft Forums!

This release is primarily to handle the changes in structure gen in Minecraft 1.6.4. Otherwise, this update saw some bug fixes and general balance tweaks. Be sure to check out the changelog.

Keep in mind that you need link panels to make books! This is for both descriptive and linking books.

Desk Contest Wrap Up

Post by: on October 23rd, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

After much deliberation and at least two rounds of judging (after the initial voting), a winner has been selected!

Because of the nature of the selection and of the mod in general, Veo and I also came up with some interesting ideas for some of the other entries later on. We also couldn’t pick just one entry as a winner.

In the end, CyanideX’s 6th and 7th entries have been selected as a form of two part desk. You can see them here and here. The top section will be craftable separately from the base and existing desks will be able to change to the new base without issue. I’ll be making minor changes to the lamp, though.
The desk won’t be included in the 1.6.4 update, but it’s one of my top priorities after that. :)

Some of the other desk entries may appear later on in Mystcraft. ;) Keep a look out!

Cheers!

The API advents with this release, in an alpha stage. It’s still in its juvinile form, not yet fully developed, but it should serve. Be sure to give me feedback on the Mystcraft Forums!

What’s the Hold Up?

Post by: on October 17th, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

I thank everyone for their patience in waiting for a version of Mystcraft for Minecraft 1.6.4. I’m happy to announce I’ll be doing that very soon now.

First I will release a build that I’ve been sitting on for over a month now (for 1.6.2). Then I will update it to 1.6.4 and release that.

Why have I not released this build for so long, you ask? Many reasons. Once of the leading points is time. For the past couple months I’ve been working on my Master’s Thesis, along with my normal studies and activities. This has left me with little free time to spare for Mystcraft development.
“How long does it take to push a build if you have all the code written?” Well, for some people it can take a long time. In my case, I automate stuff and know how to run a project, so it actually is more a matter of pushing a button. That’s not what’s been holding that release back.

The actual reason that time has been a factor is that about two months ago I decided to transition from the Mantis bug tracker I’ve been using. Talking with the testing team, it was suggested that the next release wait until after that transition. I started that, but part of it depended on the host of my server, who has been very busy with work and RL things as well, and I’ve been so busy lately I’ve not had the time to try to work around it. Since there was nothing in the current build to require a more immediate release, I didn’t worry about changing this decision.
At this point my server host is back and we’re finishing the process for moving over to Trac. Once that is done I’ll post the newest build and start the transition to 1.6.4. In theory that shouldn’t take more than a couple hours, maximum. Once it’s updated I’ll push that, too.

Included in these releases will be the first public releases of the Mystcraft API. It’s still a bit rough around the edges, and anything without javadoc is subject to change, but it’ll be out there for people to work with. I very much look forward to seeing what everyone can do with the framework and system I’ve provided. :) I expect there will be a lot of feedback on things I’ve not thought of, which is why I’m releasing it, and why it’s still an alpha.

I look forward to rewarding everyone’s patience soon. Sorry for the long wait.
Cheers!

PS: I note from the suggested permalink that this is not my first post titled “What’s the Hold Up?” I’m apparently repeating myself… And apparently often waiting on events beyond my control to occur. :P

Issues Minecraft 1.6.4

Post by: on October 10th, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

The current build of Mystcraft does not work for 1.6.4. This is because vanilla structure generation changed, forcing many mods to update.

I have not yet had the chance to actually do anything with Mystcraft since before 1.6.4 came out, so there is not yet an update to it.

I hope to get he opportunity in the very near future. I will release an update for 1.6.4 in order for people to transition maps properly.

Cheers!

End of the Desk Contest

Post by: on October 1st, 2013 | File Under Mystcraft

And so the desk contest closes! Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry and to everyone who voted on them!

I’ve heard that voting was apparently difficult, and the general count of votes would evidence this. I’m of course interested in feedback on the contest itself, particularly suggestions on how to better run one in the future.
One thing I noted is that the contest ran for too long. It might have helped if I’d talked about it more and kept it more current, but I’ve not been around lately. That was mostly unfortunate timing, but that’s life.

At any rate, I’m counting votes and going through the entries. I can’t give a date for when I’ll have the final results (because the last thing I need is another deadline), but I’ve got the votes recorded and I know which entries are in the running. Veo and I need to sit down together (metaphorically) and go over the results, still.

Thanks again for a fun contest!
Cheers!
